CAD Program Loading & Rivet Type Selection

The operator loads the CAD drawing for the current product into the machine's programming system. The CAD guidance automatically defines the rivet placement positions across the 300 x 300mm working platform. The machine selects the correct rivet type from its automatic dual-rivet switching system — no manual changeover required when switching between rivet specifications.

Plate Loading & CCD Vision Correction

The aluminum, copper, or VC plate assembly is loaded onto the working platform. If CCD vision correction is enabled, the vision system captures the actual position of the workpiece and compares it to the programmed CAD coordinates — automatically correcting for any placement offset before riveting begins. This eliminates positioning errors caused by manual loading variation.

Automatic Riveting Cycle

The electric cylinder descends to the first programmed rivet position and applies up to 2 tons of pressing force to set the rivet. The system monitors both riveting position and cylinder pressure in real time throughout the cycle — flagging any deviation from the programmed pressure profile for quality control purposes. The machine then moves to the next rivet position automatically, following the CAD-defined sequence.

Automatic Blanking & Discharge

After all rivet positions have been completed, the machine performs automatic blanking and the finished assembly is discharged. The production cycle is then ready for the next workpiece — with no manual intervention required between units in fully automatic mode.

All positioning, pressure, and rivet type parameters are programmable via the machine interface, allowing the same unit to handle different thermal module product specifications without hardware changeover.

Honestly, communication was the biggest surprise. I sent a message and got a real, detailed reply within hours — not a template. They actually understood what I was asking.

We had a lot of technical questions before placing the order. They answered every single one — no pressure, no rush. By the time we signed, we already felt like we knew the team.

What I appreciated most was that they kept us updated throughout production without us having to chase. Regular photos, test results, shipping updates — everything was proactive.

I've worked with several Chinese equipment suppliers before. ThermalSolution is different — their English is solid, their engineers reply directly, and when there's a problem, they say so clearly instead of going quiet. That honesty matters a lot to us.

FAQs

What materials can the automatic riveter handle?

The automatic riveter supports aluminum plate, copper plate, and VC (Vapor Chamber) plate riveting. All three material types can be processed on the same machine within the 300 x 300mm working platform area, with CAD-guided positioning adjusting automatically to the product specifications loaded for each production run.

What is the maximum riveting pressure and how is it controlled?

The maximum electric cylinder pressure is 2 tons. Pressure is monitored in real time throughout the riveting cycle — both position and pressure data are tracked continuously, allowing the system to detect any deviation from the programmed pressure profile and flag non-conforming units for review. This real-time monitoring eliminates under-riveted or over-riveted parts reaching downstream assembly stages.

How does the CAD-guided positioning system work?

The machine uses CAD drawing import to define rivet placement positions across the working platform. Once a CAD program is loaded, the machine automatically calculates the riveting sequence and moves to each position without manual coordinate entry. This allows rapid product changeover — loading a new CAD file is all that is required to switch from one product specification to another. Multiple product CAD programs can be stored in the machine for fast selection during production.

Is CCD vision correction required, or is it optional?

CCD vision correction is an optional feature. It is recommended for applications where workpiece placement variation during loading could affect rivet positioning accuracy — particularly for high-precision thermal module assemblies or products with tight positional tolerances. Without CCD vision, the machine relies on fixture alignment for consistent workpiece positioning. Our engineering team can advise on whether CCD vision is required for your specific product and tolerance requirements.

How does the automatic rivet type switching work?

The machine supports automatic switching between 2 rivet types without manual changeover. The rivet type used at each position is programmed via the CAD file — the machine selects the correct rivet automatically as it moves through the programmed sequence. This is particularly useful for thermal module assemblies that require different rivet specifications at different positions within the same product, or for production lines running multiple product variants with different rivet requirements.

Can I order the automatic riveter as a standalone unit or as part of a full production line?

Both options are available. The automatic riveter can be ordered as a standalone unit and integrated into your existing thermal module assembly line. It can also be configured together with our laser flatness detection equipment and thermal module performance testing machines as part of a complete integrated thermal module production line. We configure the equipment package based on your current production setup and output requirements.

Do you support OEM/ODM customization for non-standard riveting requirements?

Yes. We provide OEM/ODM equipment customization. If your product requires a larger working platform, higher maximum pressure, additional rivet type capacity, a different vision system configuration, or specific integration with upstream or downstream equipment, our engineering team can develop a customized automatic riveting machine solution. Contact us with your product specifications and production requirements.

Can I test the machine with my own workpieces before placing an order?

Yes. We support process validation before order confirmation. You can send your plates and rivet specifications to our Kunshan facility, and we will run a riveting trial on the machine to verify positioning accuracy, pressure consistency, rivet quality, and compatibility with your assembly requirements. This confirms the correct machine configuration before production begins.

Learn More About Automatic Riveters for Thermal Module & Heat Sink

Whether you are sourcing an automatic riveter for a new thermal module assembly line or evaluating automated riveting equipment to upgrade your existing process, understanding the key technical factors behind riveting machine selection will help you make a more confident purchasing decision.

An automatic riveter — also referred to as an automated riveting machine, automatic rivet press, or CNC riveting machine — is used in thermal module manufacturing to mechanically fasten aluminum plates, copper plates, or vapor chamber (VC) plates together using rivets. The quality and consistency of the riveting process — including rivet placement accuracy, pressing force uniformity, and structural integrity of the completed joint — directly affects the contact pressure between thermal interface surfaces, the mechanical reliability of the finished module, and the long-term performance of the heat dissipation system. This makes riveting precision one of the most quality-critical steps in thermal module assembly.

The key parameters to evaluate when selecting an automatic riveting machine for thermal module production are: supported material types (aluminum, copper, VC plate), positioning system accuracy (manual, teach pendant, or CAD-guided), vision correction capability (CCD or laser), maximum pressing force, working platform size, rivet type flexibility, and real-time process monitoring. CAD-guided positioning significantly reduces changeover time and human error compared to manually programmed riveting systems — particularly important for production environments handling multiple product variants. CCD vision correction adds a further layer of positional accuracy by compensating for workpiece placement variation at the loading stage, improving first-pass yield rates on high-precision assemblies.

Our automatic riveter supports aluminum, copper, and VC plate riveting within a 300 x 300mm working platform, with a maximum electric cylinder pressure of 2 tons, automatic switching between 2 rivet types, CAD drawing-guided automatic positioning, optional CCD vision correction, and real-time riveting position and pressure monitoring. Operating on AC220V at 2.5kW with an overall footprint of 1,400 x 1,280 x 1,600mm, it is designed for straightforward integration into existing thermal module or heat sink assembly lines.

The automatic riveter can operate as a standalone automated rivet press or integrate directly into a complete thermal module production line alongside laser flatness detection equipment, thermal module performance testing machines, and the full range of heat pipe and vapor chamber production equipment — all available from Cooling-Thermal as a single-source thermal module automation partner.
